Bessie Jean "B. J." Mandelman died peacefully at her home in Orlando on July 12, 2021. B. J. was born in Memphis to Herman and Sara Manis on April 23, 1937. She graduated from Central High School and attended Memphis State University for one semester where she majored in playing cards at the Student Center. B. J.'s fun and lively spirit was her driving force throughout her marriages, raising her children and being the best "Mawmaw" to her adoring grandchildren. She was dedicated to her family, and her family was dedicated to her. B. J. was predeceased by her husbands, Phillip Mandelman and Mort Jaffe, her parents, and her brother, Mickey Manis. She leaves behind her sister, Sylvia Slovis, three children, Julie (Marshall) Levy, Robyn(Michael) Brooks, and Hal (Tracy) Mandelman, her 7 grandchildren, Arin,Lindsay (Chris), Galen, Paige, Hayley, Jamie and Blake, along with her extended blended family which includes 4 more grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Her funeral was held July 14, 2021 at the Anshei Sphard Cemetery. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Carriage Court(Memphis) and the staff of Inspired Living (Ocoee, FL) for all the loving care and attention they gave to B. J. The family requests any memorials/donations be sent to her life-long synagogue, Anshei Sphard-Beth El Emeth in Memphis.
