Flo Britton Campbell of Memphis passed away on November 28, 2021 at the age of 92. She attended Hutchison School and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. A native Memphian, Flo was a member of Les Passees, the Junior League of Memphis, the Dilettantes, and the Memphis Country Club. Flo was an artist. She took private lessons from Paul Penczner and attended the Memphis College of Art. She was the founder of the Semmes Street Artist Association. Her paintings were shown in Galleries in Atlanta, New Orleans, Birmingham, Memphis, Jackson, Mississippi, and the Greenville Festival. At Home Magazine published an article on her talent, paintings and home. She had artist shows at the Botanic Gardens here in Memphis, at the Jackson Art Museum and the Museum at Point Clear. She also had an Antique Gallery business with spaces in Atlanta, Jackson, Memphis, New Orleans, and Birmingham. She loved going to Canada, France and England in search of beautiful things for people. She loved life, her friends, making beautiful paintings and her dog Diva. She was the daughter of the late Florence Boyce Battle and William Johnstone Britton, Jr. She was preceded in death by her son DeWitt Malone Shy, Jr., and her husbands Frank Campbell and Frank Lewis. She leaves her daughter-in-law Laura Miller Shy and her precious grandchildren Sydney Miller Shy and DeWitt Malone Shy, III. She also leaves her sister Jane Boyce Battle, Walter Preston Battle, Linda Christina Britton, George Miller Britton and her special friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the numerous caregivers including Carolyn Falls, Tasha Tucker, Connie Reynolds, Odis Carruthers and Shirley Granberry that spent devoted years to her care and provide much comfort and companionship. A graveside service will take place on December 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. Flo requests that any memorials be sent to St. John's Episcopal Church, Memphis University School directed to the DeWitt M. Shy, Jr. Mock Trial Award, Presbyterian Day School directed to the DeWitt Shy, Jr. '63 Faculty Award for Exemplary Work Ethic or the charity of the donor's choice.
