    Lois Altherr Robinson

    February 15, 1928 - June 5, 2021

Lois Altherr Robinson of Memphis passed away peacefully on June 5th, 2021. She was born February 15th, 1928 in Memphis. Ever the consoler, listener, advisor and prayer warrior, we will miss how she gently held our hand and looked in our eyes to counsel us. She was affectionately known and referred to as “Dutch,” a nickname lovingly pinned by late husband, Jack Robinson, to poke fun at her frugality and conservative style. With Altherr as her maiden name, her German heritage was evidenced in her goal-oriented drive as a student, homemaker and devout servant of her Catholic faith. Lois attended grade school at Blessed Sacrament, graduated high school from St. Agnes Academy and went on to Sienna College to study chemistry. During her post-graduate career, she met and fell in love with Jack, a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Lois left her career as a chemist with Buckeye Cellulose to marry Jack on December 30, 1950 and move to Ft. Benning, Georgia. Lois and Jack had 4 children: Jack Jr., Sharon, Eddie and Greg. Lois worked alongside Monsignor Edward O. Heymer at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Highland for 15 plus years until his retirement. Lois spent her retirement years as a devoted Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, hospice volunteer, Eucharistic Minister, Lector and was deeply devoted to weekly Adoration of the Eucharist and Daily Mass. In addition to remaining close with her children, Lois spent her last two decades focused on being a grandmother and great grandmother to 19 children. Predeceased by Edward Altherr (father), Eleanor Davidek Altherr (mother), Pearl Altherr (stepmother), James Whitfield Tagg, Jr. (grandson), Jack Altherr (brother), Lois Robinson is survived by her sister, Elaine Altherr Thompson; daughter Sharon Robinson Moore ( Mike Moore) and three sons, Jack F. Robinson, Jr. (Craig), Edward A. Robinson (Lauren), Gregory Hurt Robinson (Leigh) as well as her 19 grand and great-grandchildren: Lauren Tagg Hill (Tom), Anne Laughlin Tagg, Sharon Elizabeth Tagg, Landon Michael Moore, Richmond Terrell Moore, Richard Griffin Moore, Chad Christopher Robinson (Dorissa), Courtney Robinson Lackey (Rob), Kelsey Robinson Moore (Griffin), Brandon Altherr Robinson, Michael Edward Robinson, Katie Fisher McHugh, Matthew Sloane McHugh, Raymond ”Austin” Robinson, Martha Katelynne “Katie” Robinson, Lois McKinnon Hill, Anne Whitfield Hill, Thomas David Hill IV, Jackson Robinson. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Thursday June 10th at St. Michael Catholic Church with the funeral mass beginning at 11:00am. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Church Health.
