Philip Henry Strubing III died May 18, 2015. He was born July 1, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA. After attending Chestnut Hill Academy and the Lawrenceville School, he went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Wharton School of Business. Philip served in the U.S. Army as a captain and flew medical missions as a helicopter pilot in the DMZ of South Korea. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a reserve officer for the Memphis Police Department. He worked in the Memphis banking industry for more than twenty-five years and was a founding board member of Memphis In May. He was a member of the Memphis Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf even in the hot Memphis summers and being in the company of friends playing (and drinking) gin in the card room. He loved fly-fishing in Arkansas, but was happiest on a Florida beach at sunset. He was preceded in death by his parents Philip Henry Strubing Jr. and Elizabeth Hanes Strubing, a sister Elizabeth Cary Strubing, a nephew Stephen Hanes Brown, and his son John Philip Strubing. Josey) of Atlanta, GA, step-daughter Ashley Harper (Daniel), three grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Tee, the Police Benevolent Association, or the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.
